OSHA has revised its National Emphasis Program (NEP) for COVID-19 that was launched March 12, 2021. Initially the NEP focused on companies that put the largest number of workers at serious risk of contracting the coronavirus.
In a news release on June 10, 2021, OSHA announced an emergency temporary standard (ETS) on COVID-19 to protect healthcare workers from contracting the disease, focusing on those most likely to have contact with someone infected.
On March 12, in response to President Biden’s executive order on protecting worker health and safety, OSHA launched a new COVID-19 National Emphasis Program (NEP).
OSHA’s General Duty Clause (GDC) makes it clear that employers have an obligation to protect workers from serious and recognized workplace hazards.
